Lt. Dave Klug

Lieutenant Dave Klug is a 23 year veteran of the Irvine Police Department, where he currently manages the Special Investigations Bureau (SIB). This Bureau includes the Threat Management Unit, School Resource Officer Program, Narcotics, and Vice. He has also managed a variety of other divisions including emergency management, professional standards, and patrol operations. He has extensive experience in working with threat assessments, active assailant training, and critical infrastructure protection (CIP).

He was a member of the SWAT team for 11 years and served on the entry team, as a scout, and as the sniper team leader. He is also a FBI trained hostage negotiator.

Lt. Klug holds a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from Cal State Fullerton, and a master’s degree in criminology, law and society from University of California, Irvine. He is an ASIS certified Associate Protection Professional (APP). He can be reached at dklug@cityofirvine.org
